SIGNS PRIORITY

When a Cough Feels Cold & Weak

These signs may point to a Lung Yang Deficiency pattern rather than a hot, irritated cough pattern.

Worse with Cold Air

Coughing is easily triggered by cold.
  • Cold air may start or worsen the cough
  • Cool weather can make breathing feel less comfortable
  • Warmth may feel more soothing

Clear or White Phlegm

Mucus tends to look more cold than hot.
  • Clear or white phlegm
  • Often thinner rather than thick and yellow
  • May increase with cold exposure

Persistent or Recurring Cough

The cough may keep returning.
  • Cough may linger longer than expected
  • It may improve and then return
  • Cold or fatigue may trigger another episode

Shortness of Breath

Lung Qi may feel less able to descend smoothly.
  • Breathing may feel shallow or less smooth
  • Coughing may interrupt comfortable breathing
  • Exertion can make it more noticeable

Tiredness After Coughing

Repeated coughing may feel draining.
  • Coughing may leave you feeling weak
  • Energy can feel lower after repeated episodes
  • Fatigue may make the pattern easier to recur

When several of these signs appear together, the pattern may point toward Lung Yang Deficiency rather than a hot, irritated Lung pattern.

DOMINANT PATTERN

Lung Yang Deficiency Can Weaken Warmth, Descent & Defense

When Lung Yang becomes weak, the Lung may lose both warmth and descending strength, making cold-type cough, clear phlegm and breathlessness easier to recur.
01

Lung Warmth Becomes Weak

The Lung may become more sensitive to cold, making coughing easier to trigger with cool air or weather changes.

Cold sensitivity · Clear phlegm · Weak warmth
02

Lung Qi Does Not Descend Smoothly

When descending function weakens, Lung Qi may rise instead, contributing to recurrent coughing and shortness of breath.

Rebellious Qi · Recurring cough · Breathlessness
03

Lung Defense Is Less Stable

A weak Lung pattern may recover more slowly, especially when fatigue, cold exposure or repeated coughing continues to drain the system.

Weak recovery · Fatigue · Easy recurrence

FORMULA STRATEGY

Warm · Descend · Secure

Lung Fire Pill® combines warming, descending and securing actions to support a cold, weak Lung pattern with recurrent cough and breathlessness.
01

Warm Lung Yang

Restore warmth to a cold, weak Lung pattern.

Stalactitum provides the warming foundation of the formula, supporting Lung Yang when coldness and weakness make coughing easier to recur.

Warm Support Yang Reduce Cold Tendency
02

Descend Rebellious Lung Qi

Help Lung Qi move downward instead of repeatedly rising.

Aster and Apricot Kernel work together to support the descending direction of Lung Qi and help calm recurrent cough and breathlessness.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Lung Fire Pill® FAQ

Common questions about pattern matching, use, and when Lung Fire Pill® may or may not be the right fit.
Is Lung Fire Pill® for every type of cough?

No. Lung Fire Pill® is primarily designed for a cold, weak Lung pattern associated with Lung Yang Deficiency, especially when coughing tends to recur with cold exposure, clear or white phlegm, breathlessness, and weakness.

What kind of cough pattern is Lung Fire Pill® designed for?

It is best matched to a pattern in which Lung warmth and descending function are weak. Common signs may include a cough that is worse with cold air, clear or white phlegm, shortness of breath, easy fatigue, and repeated recurrence.

Is Lung Fire Pill® suitable for yellow or thick phlegm?

Yellow, thick, sticky, or strong-smelling phlegm may suggest a different pattern, particularly when accompanied by throat heat, fever, or other obvious heat signs. Lung Fire Pill® is primarily positioned for cold-type, weak cough patterns.

Can Lung Fire Pill® be used for a dry cough?

A dry cough can arise from different patterns. If dryness, dry throat, and sticky or difficult-to-expectorate phlegm are the dominant signs, a moisture-deficient Lung pattern may be a better fit than Lung Yang Deficiency. Pattern matching should come before product selection.

How should I adjust the amount as I improve?

The suggested plan begins with more intensive daily support and gradually reduces the amount as the cough pattern improves. Follow the How to Use section above and adjust gradually rather than stopping abruptly after the first improvement.

Can Lung Fire Pill® be used with other Heshoutang products?

Different Heshoutang formulas are designed around different symptom and pattern priorities. Combining products should be based on whether more than one pattern is clearly present, rather than simply adding several cough products together.

When should I seek medical attention for a cough?

Seek prompt medical evaluation for severe shortness of breath, chest pain, coughing up blood, bluish lips or face, confusion, persistent high fever, rapidly worsening symptoms, or a cough that remains unexplained or persistent.
