Recognize the Signs
Signs of Fluid Retention
When fluid movement slows, the body may begin to show visible or physical signs of water accumulation.
Puffiness
Puffiness or a swollen appearance may suggest that fluids are not moving out efficiently.
- Face may look fuller or puffy
- Body may feel slightly swollen
- Fluid seems to linger in the tissues
Swollen Legs & Ankles
Fluid may collect more easily in the lower body, especially in the legs and ankles.
- Lower legs feel heavy
- Ankles look or feel swollen
- Swelling tends to settle downward
Abdominal Fullness
Fluids may contribute to a full, distended, or water-heavy feeling in the abdomen.
- Abdomen feels full or distended
- Body feels heavier than usual
- Fullness does not feel like simple bloating alone
Reduced Urinary Flow
When fluid pathways slow down, urinary flow may also feel less efficient than usual.
- Urinary flow feels reduced
- Fluids do not seem to clear well
- Drainage feels slower than normal
When several of these signs appear together, the pattern may point toward slowed fluid movement and water retention.
